About this build

Composition Viii rebuilt in bricks measures 96 × 66 studs — 77 × 53 cm once it is on the wall — and takes 2 981 plates. Each stud is one pixel of the original, and nothing is painted or printed: the colour you see is the colour of the plate underneath it.

The engine matched the artwork to 44 of the LEGO® colours we can actually buy. Tan does the most work at 14% of the surface — 409 plates on its own, followed by Dark Tan (12%), Chrome Silver (8%). That distribution is the fingerprint of this particular image: a portrait leans on skin tones, a night sky spends almost everything on two or three darks.

Buying the plates for this one costs roughly €305 at current second-hand prices, spread across 44 colours. That is the part most people do not expect, and it is why the instructions and the sourcing list are what we sell: the bricks you buy where they are cheapest, or take from what you already own.
