Great Gatsby Cover rebuilt in bricks measures 96 × 136 studs — 77 × 109 cm once it is on the wall — and takes 5 707 plates. Each stud is one pixel of the original, and nothing is painted or printed: the colour you see is the colour of the plate underneath it.
The engine matched the artwork to 39 of the LEGO® colours we can actually buy. Dark Blue does the most work at 24% of the surface — 1 378 plates on its own, followed by Black (11%), Dark Green (10%). That distribution is the fingerprint of this particular image: a portrait leans on skin tones, a night sky spends almost everything on two or three darks.
Buying the plates for this one costs roughly €598 at current second-hand prices, spread across 39 colours.
