About this build

Milkmaid rebuilt in bricks measures 96 × 108 studs — 77 × 86 cm once it is on the wall — and takes 4 438 plates. Each stud is one pixel of the original, and nothing is painted or printed: the colour you see is the colour of the plate underneath it.

The engine matched the artwork to 27 of the LEGO® colours we can actually buy. Black does the most work at 15% of the surface — 663 plates on its own, followed by Pearl Titanium (13%), Medium Brown (11%). That distribution is the fingerprint of this particular image: a portrait leans on skin tones, a night sky spends almost everything on two or three darks.

Buying the plates for this one costs roughly €464 at current second-hand prices, spread across 27 colours. That is the part most people do not expect, and it is why the instructions and the sourcing list are what we sell: the bricks you buy where they are cheapest, or take from what you already own.
